Jobber is field-service management software for home-service businesses — lawn care, cleaning, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and about fifty other trades — with card and bank processing built in as Jobber Payments. The company, legally Octopusapp Inc., was founded in Edmonton, Alberta in 2011 by Sam Pillar and Forrest Zeisler and is still run by them; it raised US$100 million from General Atlantic in February 2023 and says more than 400,000 service professionals use the product. Jobber does not hold a merchant agreement itself: Jobber Payments is processed by Stripe, Inc. under Stripe's connected-account terms, which is what makes the rate card flat and the onboarding fast. As of September 2026 the published rates are the same on every plan — 2.9% + 30¢ for cards paid online through the client hub, 2.7% + 30¢ for Tap to Pay in the field, 1% for US bank payments (ACH), and an extra 1% for an instant payout — with a chargeback fee (amount unpublished) that is refunded if you win and no monthly processing charge beyond the software subscription, which runs from $49 a month (Core, one user, no commitment) to $199 a month (Grow) at list. Payouts run on a rolling two-business-day window after a five-day authorization period on the first payment; ACH takes about four business days. The processing is available in the US, Canada and the UK; ACH, the card reader and the Jobber Money account are US-only. The trade-off is the software: its subscription is the real cost, it auto-renews, and prepaid annual fees are non-refundable, which is the substance of most of the complaints on record.

Housecall Pro is field-service software for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, cleaning and other home-service trades, with card, ACH and consumer-financing acceptance built in as HCP Payments. Codefied Inc., which trades as Housecall Pro, was founded in San Diego in 2013 by a team including Ian Heidt and Roland Ligtenberg, took $125 million from Permira Growth Opportunities and Vista Credit Partners in June 2022, has since moved its headquarters to Denver, and says more than 200,000 home-service professionals use the product. The processing is Stripe's: the terms of service bind every customer to Stripe's Services and Connected Account agreements, and Stripe applies the $25 dispute fee. The rates, published in the help centre as of September 2026, are percentage-only with no per-transaction cents — 2.59% for cards dipped, tapped or swiped in the field (Tap to Pay adds $5 per active device a month), 2.99% for cards paid online against an invoice, 3.49% for keyed, card-on-file and scanned cards and for American Express and business cards, 1% for ACH, 2.99% for PayPal and Venmo, and 4.99% for PayPal Pay Later and Klarna — with mobile check deposit free. Standard payouts take two business days, with up to seven for the first and Instapay in about 30 minutes for 1%. The software runs $79 a month (Basic, one user) to $329 a month (MAX, eight users) billed monthly, or $59 to $299 billed annually, with no long-term contract. The record is the problem: a 2.4 TrustScore from 638 reviews, 76 BBB complaints in three years and a steady stream of reports about held funds, surprise price increases and cancellations that require a phone call.
Jobber and Housecall Pro are the two field-service platforms a plumber, electrician, cleaner, landscaper or HVAC contractor is most likely to shortlist, and both run card processing on Stripe underneath their scheduling, quoting and invoicing tools. They charge for it differently. Jobber, graded B+ on Payment Review, starts at $29 a month billed annually ($49 month to month) and charges 2.9% + 30¢ on cards paid online and 2.7% + 30¢ when a card is tapped to your phone or read by its card reader. Housecall Pro, graded B-, starts at $59 a month billed annually ($79 month to month) and charges percentage-only rates with no per-transaction cents: 2.59% in person, 2.99% on an invoice paid online and 3.49% for anything keyed, saved on file or paid with an American Express or business card, plus $5 a month for each phone that uses Tap to Pay. Both take ACH at 1%, both pay out in about two business days and both offer an instant payout for an extra 1%. Housecall Pro is cheaper per transaction in person and on small online tickets; Jobber is cheaper to subscribe to as a solo operator, offers every plan month to month with self-serve cancellation, and carries a far stronger reputation record.
Jobber is the better pick for a solo operator or a small crew that wants the lowest subscription, month-to-month billing it can cancel itself, and a platform with a clean complaint record. Its processing costs more in person, but the gap on a $300 job is 63¢.
Housecall Pro is the better pick for a crew that takes most of its money in person or on small online invoices and wants a flat percentage with no per-transaction cents, or a five-to-eight-person team that will use its Essentials or Max plan. Budget for the $5 monthly Tap to Pay fee per phone, the $25 dispute fee and a cancellation that needs a phone call.

Jobber, for most home-service businesses. It costs less to subscribe to at one user, matches Housecall Pro at five, lets you cancel a monthly plan yourself, and has a reputation record that is in a different league: a 4.2 Trustpilot score and six BBB complaints against 2.4 and 76. Housecall Pro's genuine advantage is per-transaction pricing with no per-transaction cents, which makes it cheaper on every tapped or dipped card and on online invoices under about $333, and it offers Klarna, PayPal and Venmo at checkout where Jobber does not. That advantage is worth a few dollars a day to a crew that takes most of its money in person, and less than nothing to a business that keys cards, bills American Express or business cards at 3.49%, pays $5 a month per Tap to Pay phone and $25 per chargeback. Payment Review grades Jobber B+ and Housecall Pro B-, and the verdict follows the grades.

Recommendations based on your business type

Jobber Core is $29 a month billed annually against Housecall Pro Basic at $59, and a second user is $29 on Jobber. The extra 0.11% plus 30¢ Jobber charges on a tapped card is less than the $30 monthly saving until you take more than about 70 in-person card payments a month at $100 a ticket.

Housecall Pro's 2.59% with no cents is cheaper than Jobber's 2.7% + 30¢ on every ticket, and cheaper than Jobber's online rate on invoices under about $333. Weigh the saving against $5 a month per phone using Tap to Pay.

Above about $333 Jobber's 2.9% + 30¢ is cheaper than Housecall Pro's 2.99%, and any keyed, saved-card, American Express or business-card payment costs 3.49% on Housecall Pro against Jobber's 2.9% + 30¢.

Housecall Pro Essentials covers five users for $149 a month billed annually with employee GPS tracking, routes and flat-rate pricing, and Max covers eight for $299. Jobber Grow is the same $149 for five but its automatic time tracking is geofence-based and extra seats are $29 each.

Jobber's monthly plans cancel from account settings and end at the billing period. Housecall Pro finalises a cancellation only after its billing team has spoken with the account owner by phone, and its terms let it revise pricing on notice at any time.

Jobber Payments is available in the UK on a four-business-day payout schedule. Housecall Pro's card processing is limited to the United States and Canada.
