Wix Payments is the native payment processor inside Wix, the website builder founded in Tel Aviv in 2006 by Avishai Abrahami, Nadav Abrahami and Giora Kaplan and listed on Nasdaq since 2013. It lets a Wix merchant accept cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and instalment plans from Affirm, Afterpay and Klarna without connecting a third-party processor, with payments, payouts, refunds and disputes managed from the Wix dashboard. Wix's own help centre says it is available in fifteen countries and, in its terms, that the processing underneath is handled by Adyen and Stripe in most regions and by Pagar.me in Brazil — so this is a payment facilitator layered on other acquirers rather than a new one. US pricing is published in full: 2.9% plus 30¢ on standard cards online, 3.7% plus 30¢ on American Express, 2.6% flat on the Wix POS hardware, 2.6% plus 20¢ for Tap to Pay, 3.5% plus 30¢ keyed, 6% plus 30¢ on the instalment options, a 1.5% cross-border surcharge and a $15 chargeback fee. Payouts run daily, weekly or monthly and reach a US bank in three to five business days after a two-to-five-day pending period. The case for it is one dashboard, a competitive in-person rate and a real hardware line; the case against is that online it costs exactly what Stripe charges directly, Amex is expensive, Wix's documented reserve and hold policy gives it wide latitude over your money, and support is chat and callback only.

Squarespace Payments is the native payment processor inside Squarespace, the New York website builder founded by Anthony Casalena in 2003 and taken private by Permira in October 2024 for about $7.2bn. Announced in October 2023 and rolled out first in the United States, it now covers fifteen countries and lets a Squarespace merchant accept cards, ACH, Klarna, Afterpay and other methods without connecting Stripe or PayPal, with payments, payouts, refunds and disputes managed inside the Squarespace dashboard. Underneath, Squarespace's own help documentation describes Stripe as its processing services partner, so this is a payment facilitator layered on Stripe rather than a new acquirer. US pricing is published in full: 2.9% plus 30¢ on standard cards on the Basic and Core plans, 2.7% on Plus and 2.5% on Advanced, a 1.5% surcharge on international cards, 3.2% plus 30¢ on American Express and premium cards, ACH at 1% to 1.5%, and a $20 dispute fee. Payouts are daily and reach a US bank account in one to two business days. The case for it is convenience and, on the higher plans, a modest rate cut; the case against is that it is no cheaper than Stripe direct on the plans most merchants are on, it is locked to Squarespace, and a steady stream of complaints describes risk holds on funds with no phone number to call.
Wix Payments and Squarespace Payments are the built-in processors of two website builders, and both start at 2.9% + $0.30 on US cards with no separate processing contract, no monthly fee beyond the site plan and no early-termination fee. The differences are in the second row of the rate card. Squarespace Payments (a B- on Payment Review) gets cheaper as the plan gets dearer — 2.7% + $0.30 on Plus and 2.5% + $0.30 on Advanced — charges 3.2% + $0.30 on American Express against Wix's 3.7% + $0.30, offers ACH at 1% (1.5% on Basic) where Wix lists no bank-debit rate, and pays out daily with funds arriving in one to two business days; but its $19 Basic plan adds a 2% platform fee on every sale. Wix Payments (also a B-) charges 2.9% + $0.30 on every plan, lists no platform fee on sales, has a real in-person rate of 2.6% on its POS hardware, takes PayPal, Venmo, Affirm, Afterpay and Klarna at published rates where Squarespace publishes none, charges $15 rather than $20 per chargeback, and answers support 24/7 by chat and callback — but a payout takes three to five business days to land. A store that also sells in person or leans on wallets and buy-now-pay-later gets more from Wix; a store on a higher plan, one collecting by ACH, or one that needs its money quickly does better on Squarespace.
Wix Payments is for a Wix site that sells in person as well as online, or that wants PayPal, Venmo, Affirm, Afterpay and Klarna at checkout at a published rate: 2.9% + $0.30 online on every plan with no platform fee, 2.6% on POS hardware, a $15 chargeback fee and 24/7 chat support. Accept that payouts take three to five business days and that Amex costs 3.7% + $0.30.
Squarespace Payments is for a Squarespace site on the Core plan or above — where the 2% platform fee disappears and card rates fall to 2.7% or 2.5% + $0.30 on Plus and Advanced — that collects some payments by ACH at 1% and wants its money in one to two business days. Amex at 3.2% + $0.30 is cheaper than Wix; the $20 chargeback fee, no in-person rate and weekday-only live chat are the trade-offs.
These are house processors, so the first question is which builder you are on, and neither is worth switching platforms for. On price they are level at the entry point — 2.9% + $0.30 on Wix's $29 Core plan and on Squarespace's $29 Core plan — and diverge on either side: Squarespace's $19 Basic plan is cheaper to hold but adds 2% to every sale, while its $49 Plus and $99 Advanced plans buy card rates of 2.7% and 2.5% + $0.30 that Wix never matches. Squarespace also wins on American Express, on ACH, and on payout speed, with money in the bank in one to two business days against Wix's three to five. Wix wins wherever the sale is not a plain online card: 2.6% on its POS hardware, PayPal, Venmo and buy-now-pay-later at published rates, a $15 chargeback fee, and support that is reachable around the clock. Payment Review grades both B-, and the split is real: choose Squarespace Payments for a higher-plan online store, ACH or fast payouts, and Wix Payments for in-person sales, payment-method breadth and support.

Recommendations based on your business type

Wix has a real in-person rate — 2.6% flat on its POS hardware, 2.6% + $0.20 on Tap to Pay — where Squarespace charges the online plan rate on Tap to Pay and a Square Reader, with no dedicated hardware beyond that.

Squarespace Advanced at $99/mo charges 2.5% + $0.30 against Wix's 2.9% + $0.30 on its $29 Core plan; the 0.4-point difference covers the $70 plan gap at roughly $17,500 a month, and every dollar above that is cheaper on Squarespace.

Squarespace Payments takes ACH at 1% on Core and above (1.5% on Basic); Wix Payments lists no ACH rate.

Wix prices PayPal and Venmo at 3.49% + $0.49 and Affirm, Afterpay and Klarna at 6% + $0.30 inside Wix Payments. Squarespace offers Afterpay and Klarna with Squarespace Payments and PayPal as a second processor, but publishes no rate for them and does not list Venmo or Affirm.

Squarespace pays out daily with funds arriving in one to two business days; a Wix payout takes three to five business days to reach a US bank, though Wix Checking can shorten that for eligible US merchants.

Squarespace's $19 Basic plan is $10 a month cheaper than Wix Core, but adds 2% to every sale; at $500 a month in sales the two cost the same, and above that Wix Core with no platform fee is cheaper.
