Comparison · Updated October 1, 2026

Payoneer is a global fintech platform that enables businesses, freelancers, and marketplaces to send and receive cross-border payments, manage multi-currency funds, and scale internationally.

Wise Business is the business version of the Wise multi-currency account, run by Wise, the London company that launched as TransferWise in 2011. A US business pays a one-time $31 fee to open local account details in 22 currencies, and there is no monthly fee. As of October 2026, US pricing makes domestic (non-wire) receipts in USD and eight other currencies free and charges $6.11 for each incoming USD wire or Swift payment. Conversion fees start at 0.23% and depend on the currency, always at the mid-market rate, and same-currency payments between Wise accounts are free. Clients can pay you through payment links, invoices and QR codes. Wise also has a card acceptance feature, priced for US businesses at 2.9% + $0.30 for domestic consumer cards and 4.2% + $0.30 for international and business cards, but Wise says it is currently unavailable to new Wise Business customers. Wise is not a bank: in the US the account is provided by Wise US Inc., a licensed money transmitter, and balances are not FDIC-insured unless you opt in to its interest feature. Its US regulatory record is the main weakness. Wise US settled with the CFPB in 2025 and paid $4.2 million to six state regulators over anti-money-laundering failings, the OCC refused its trust bank charter in July 2026, and a securities class action against Wise Group is pending.
Both give a business local bank details abroad so overseas clients can pay by an ordinary domestic transfer, and both let you hold several currencies and convert when you choose. This comparison is written for a US-based freelancer, agency or online seller, using Payoneer's published standard fee schedule (last updated 1 January 2026; Payoneer says the fees on any one account can vary by country and account type) and Wise's US business pricing as of 1 October 2026. Wise is cheaper on almost every fee a cross-border earner pays: euro and pound receipts into its local details are free where Payoneer charges a US account holder 1% for receiving a currency that is not local to it, its conversion fee is set per currency route on the mid-market rate (0.47% from EUR to USD, 0.29% from USD to EUR on 1 October), and its card has no annual fee. On a €1,000 invoice paid by a German client and withdrawn to a US bank, that works out to about $6.39 at Wise against about $18.29 at Payoneer, even assuming Payoneer converts at the mid-market rate. Payoneer's advantages are reach and access: Upwork, Fiverr, Amazon, eBay, Walmart and what it calls 100+ other platforms pay out to it, it has no setup fee, and a new customer can still send a payment request that a client pays by card, which Wise has closed to new business customers. Payoneer charges $29.95 a year if the account receives under $6,000 in any twelve months; Wise charges a one-time $31 to open account details. Payment Review grades both B-.
Payoneer suits a freelancer or seller paid mainly by marketplaces such as Upwork, Fiverr, Amazon, eBay or Walmart, or one who needs to send clients a payment request they can pay by card, and whose account will clear $6,000 a year so the annual fee does not apply.
Wise Business suits a US freelancer, agency or exporter paid by direct clients in euros, pounds and other currencies, who converts and withdraws regularly and wants published, route-by-route conversion fees on the mid-market rate, and who does not need to take cards.
On price, Wise Business wins for a US business paid by direct clients abroad: free EUR and GBP receipts, published route-by-route conversion fees on the mid-market rate, cheaper withdrawals and a card with no annual fee, which together cost about $6 on a €1,000 invoice against about $18 at Payoneer. Payoneer wins on access: it is the payout option on far more marketplaces, including Fiverr, eBay and Walmart, it has no setup fee, and it still lets a new customer bill clients who pay by card, which Wise has closed. Both are graded B- by Payment Review, and both can hold funds during a compliance review. A freelancer working through marketplaces is better served by Payoneer; one invoicing clients directly in foreign currencies keeps more with Wise; many will hold both.
| Feature | Payoneer | Wise Business |
|---|---|---|
| Setup fee | $0 Winner | $31 one-time for account details |
| Wise's US business pricing page: registration is free and a one-time $31 fee opens account details in 22 currencies; there is no monthly fee. Payoneer's standard fee schedule (last updated 1 January 2026), which Payoneer describes as its most common pricing and says can differ by territory and account type, lists no setup fee but says a registration fee may apply in certain countries and that certain account types in specific regions require a paid annual plan, disclosed at registration. | ||
| Annual account fee | $29.95 if under $6,000 received in 12 months | None Winner |
| Payoneer's annual account fee applies only if the account receives less than $6,000 or equivalent in any 12 consecutive months. An account that clears that threshold pays nothing; one that sits idle pays $29.95 a year, so after two low-activity years Payoneer has cost more than Wise's one-off $31. | ||
Recommendations based on your business type

Wise receives euros and pounds by domestic transfer for free and converts at 0.47% from EUR to USD on the mid-market rate; Payoneer charges 1% to receive a non-local currency before its 0.5% conversion.

Payoneer is a named payout method on Upwork, Fiverr, Toptal and what it describes as 100+ platforms. Wise works where a platform pays to ordinary bank details, such as Upwork's 'Direct to US Bank', but its help centre has no Fiverr article; only an older Wise blog post describes Fiverr's bank-transfer withdrawal to Wise details.

Payoneer connects to Amazon, eBay, Walmart and other marketplaces and links several Amazon stores in one account. Wise can take Amazon's local payouts into its USD and EUR details, but it documents only a handful of platforms and only local-currency payouts.

Payoneer payment requests accept cards at up to 3.99% + $0.49. Wise's card acceptance is closed to new business customers, so a new Wise user would need a separate processor.

Payoneer charges $29.95 every year the account receives under $6,000; Wise's $31 is a one-time setup fee with no monthly or annual charge.
