Wise Business is the business version of the Wise multi-currency account, run by Wise, the London company that launched as TransferWise in 2011. A US business pays a one-time $31 fee to open local account details in 22 currencies, and there is no monthly fee. As of October 2026, US pricing makes domestic (non-wire) receipts in USD and eight other currencies free and charges $6.11 for each incoming USD wire or Swift payment. Conversion fees start at 0.23% and depend on the currency, always at the mid-market rate, and same-currency payments between Wise accounts are free. Clients can pay you through payment links, invoices and QR codes. Wise also has a card acceptance feature, priced for US businesses at 2.9% + $0.30 for domestic consumer cards and 4.2% + $0.30 for international and business cards, but Wise says it is currently unavailable to new Wise Business customers. Wise is not a bank: in the US the account is provided by Wise US Inc., a licensed money transmitter, and balances are not FDIC-insured unless you opt in to its interest feature. Its US regulatory record is the main weakness. Wise US settled with the CFPB in 2025 and paid $4.2 million to six state regulators over anti-money-laundering failings, the OCC refused its trust bank charter in July 2026, and a securities class action against Wise Group is pending.

Revolut Business is the merchant-acceptance arm of Revolut, the London fintech founded in 2015 by Nik Storonsky and Vlad Yatsenko. It is unusual in this directory for a simple reason: it publishes a complete rate card. A merchant can read, before speaking to anyone, that in-person domestic consumer Visa and Mastercard transactions cost 0.8% + £0.02, that the same cards online cost 1% + £0.20, that commercial and international cards cost 2.6% + £0.02 in person and 2.8% + £0.20 online, that a Revolut Terminal is £169 + VAT and a Lite Terminal £129 + VAT, and that a chargeback dispute resolved in the merchant's favour returns £15. Acceptance is a sub-account of a Revolut Business account rather than a separate merchant account with a separate provider, so settlement lands in the same balance the business already banks from, in as little as 24 hours. The important limit is geographic: Revolut has offered acquiring across the UK and continental Europe since 2020–21 — its own January 2021 announcement put the count at 29 European countries, a figure it has not refreshed since — and launched a full merchant-acquiring suite in Australia during 2026. It publishes no United States card-acceptance rates. In March 2026 Revolut exited the Bank of England's mobilisation phase and received a full UK banking licence, roughly twenty months after being granted one with restrictions in July 2024.
Both are London-based multi-currency business accounts, and both price by country, so this comparison uses their UK pages and pounds throughout. Wise Business charges a one-time £50 setup fee and nothing monthly, and charges a conversion fee on every exchange (0.33% for GBP to EUR when checked on 1 October 2026) at the mid-market rate. Revolut Business charges a monthly plan (£10 Basic, £35 Grow, £125 Scale on monthly billing) that includes an allowance of exchange at the interbank rate (£1,000, £15,000 or £60,000 a month), then 0.6% above it and 1% outside market hours. Wise is cheaper for a business converting small or irregular amounts; on Grow, Revolut is cheaper for GBP to EUR conversion between roughly £10,500 and £20,000 a month. The bigger differences are elsewhere: Revolut takes card payments from 0.8% + £0.02 in person, while Wise's card acceptance is closed to new customers, and Revolut is moving business accounts in phases to Revolut Bank UK, where eligible deposits are FSCS-protected up to £120,000, while Wise is an e-money institution that safeguards funds instead. Payment Review grades Revolut Business B and Wise Business B-.
Wise Business suits UK freelancers, agencies and exporters that invoice or pay abroad irregularly, want local account details in 22 currencies for a one-time £50 and no monthly fee, and already take card payments elsewhere or do not need to.
Revolut Business suits UK businesses that want one account for banking, multi-currency exchange and card acceptance, with FSCS protection on eligible deposits once moved to Revolut Bank UK, and that convert enough each month for a plan allowance to pay for itself.
It depends on whether you need to take cards and how much you convert, which fits the site's grades (Revolut Business B, Wise Business B-). Revolut is the more complete UK business account: it takes card payments at published rates from 0.8% + £0.02, receives GBP, EUR and USD transfers free, and is moving accounts in phases to a UK bank where eligible deposits are FSCS-protected up to £120,000. Wise is the cheaper choice for a business that converts small or irregular amounts and does not need card acceptance, because it charges no monthly fee and about 0.33% per GBP to EUR conversion at any time of day, against Revolut's £10 a month for a £1,000 allowance and 0.6% above it. On Revolut Grow, Revolut is cheaper for conversion between roughly £10,500 and £20,000 a month.

Recommendations based on your business type

Revolut takes UK consumer Visa and Mastercard at 0.8% + £0.02 in person and sells terminals at £169 and £129. Wise's card acceptance is closed to new customers.

Wise has no monthly fee, gives local details in 22 currencies for a one-time £50, and charges about 0.33% to convert euros or dollars when you choose to. On Revolut, even Basic costs £10 a month and conversion above £1,000 costs 0.6%.

Revolut Grow's £35 a month covers £15,000 of interbank-rate exchange and five international transfers, which costs less than or about the same as Wise's 0.33% at that volume, provided exchanges are made during market hours to avoid Revolut's 1% fee.

Once an account has moved to Revolut Bank UK, eligible deposits are FSCS-protected up to £120,000. Wise safeguards funds as an e-money institution but they are not FSCS-covered. Above £120,000 neither scheme covers the excess, so spread large balances.

Revolut adds 1% to exchanges outside market hours on every plan; Wise's UK business price list shows no out-of-hours charge.
