NOWPayments is a cryptocurrency payment gateway launched in 2019 by the team behind the ChangeNOW crypto exchange. It lets a business take payments in more than 350 crypto assets through an API, invoices, payment links, plugins, donation widgets, subscriptions and a browser-based point of sale. Each payment can be forwarded to the merchant's own wallet or held in an optional custody balance, which a third-party provider runs. As of October 2026 its pricing page lists a 1% service fee on payments received and settled in the same coin and 1.5% when the payment is converted or taken at a fixed rate, plus blockchain network fees. Payouts and mass payouts carry no service fee, only network fees. There is no monthly fee, setup fee or contract. The operator is FD Transfers LLC, registered in St. Vincent and the Grenadines with a postal address in Tallinn, Estonia. Its Terms of Service, updated 19 October 2026, say (in section 15.1) that the services are not provided to residents or citizens of the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, the UAE or Russia, and that the company can close an account at any time without giving a reason. The US, UK and EU exclusion was already in the April 2026 terms; the UAE and Russia were added later in 2026. We found no regulator licence for NOWPayments itself. Trustpilot rates it 4.5 from 1,122 reviews, but 13% are one-star, and some of those describe blocked accounts and withheld funds.

Businesses whose owners are not residents or citizens of the US, UK, EU, UAE or Russia, including online gaming, adult and other high-risk merchants, that want to accept many cryptocurrencies with low published fees, no monthly charge and no card-style chargebacks, and can live with an offshore counterparty.
The take
B-NOWPayments is a capable and cheap way to accept a wide range of cryptocurrencies, with a published 1% fee, free payouts, plugins for common store platforms and quick self-serve sign-up. The grade is held at B- by who can use it and the terms you accept. The operator is an offshore company in St. Vincent and the Grenadines with no licence we could find. Its Terms of Service (updated 19 October 2026) exclude residents and citizens of the US, UK, EU, UAE and Russia, which rules out most readers of this site. It can close an account at any time without giving a reason, change its fees at any time, and, if you breach the terms, apply the crypto in your account to the resulting liability without notice. Its pricing page also gives two different figures for converting funds inside custody.
Are a resident or citizen of the US, UK, EU, UAE or Russia, need a licensed and regulated counterparty, need card payments under your own merchant account, or cannot accept terms that let the provider close your account without giving a reason.

Payments can go straight to a wallet the merchant controls instead of sitting with the processor, the fee is a flat published percentage rather than a quote, and payouts, including mass payouts that NOWPayments says can send 1,000-plus transfers in one click, carry no service fee. The automatic coin-to-coin conversion runs through ChangeNOW, the exchange whose team launched the gateway.
Real-world cost at three volumes, plus the rates, fees, payouts, and contract terms that drive them.
Estimated annual cost at three realistic processing volumes, using NOWPayments’s published online rate plus monthly fees. Real costs vary with average transaction size, chargeback rate, and any negotiated terms.
NOWPayments is a cryptocurrency payment gateway. A business integrates it through an API, hosted invoices, payment links, a payment button, donation widgets, recurring billing or plugins for store platforms such as WooCommerce, Magento 2, PrestaShop, OpenCart and WHMCS. Customers then pay in any of more than 350 crypto assets. The company says it was founded in 2019 by the team behind ChangeNOW, a crypto exchange that powers its automatic conversions, and its site footer still reads 'Launched by ChangeNOW'. The earliest archived copy of nowpayments.io dates from June 2019, which fits that founding date.
The contracting company is FD Transfers LLC, registered in St. Vincent and the Grenadines at Euro House, Richmond Hill Road, Kingstown. Its postal address is a serviced office in Tallinn, Estonia. NOWPayments does not name any financial-services licence or registration on its site, and we found none. St. Vincent's Financial Services Authority does not publish a searchable register of virtual asset businesses, so we could not check there directly, and NOWPayments does not appear on its notice of unauthorised providers. Its FAQ says only that it complies with AML requirements and partners with regulated fiat on-ramp and off-ramp providers. The terms say deposit addresses, custody, mass payouts and fiat withdrawals may be provided by third parties, but they do not name them.
There is no card merchant agreement anywhere in the NOWPayments model. A merchant signs up with an email address and a crypto wallet and gets an API key. Each customer payment goes to a single-use deposit address, and after processing the funds are sent to the merchant's wallet or credited to an optional custody balance. NOWPayments takes a percentage for routing and converting the payment. It does not sell the goods, so it is not a merchant of record. It holds no card acquiring relationship, so it is not a payfac or ISO. Card payments are possible only through a third-party fiat on-ramp, where the customer is in effect buying crypto from that provider.
Network fees are the part that is hard to predict. NOWPayments says they apply when the customer sends funds, when funds move on-chain during processing, and again when you withdraw to an external wallet, and that they are a fixed amount per transaction rather than a percentage. On a busy network, or for a small payment, they can cost more than the service fee. Several one-star Trustpilot reviews from 2026 complain of receiving noticeably less than was sent. Keeping funds in custody and withdrawing in batches avoids some of these fees, which is what NOWPayments recommends.
When a customer chooses to pay, NOWPayments generates a deposit address for that payment. The address is meant for one use only. Repeat deposits to it are processed at the exchange rate at the time and always go to the original payout wallet. Once the blockchain confirms the transfer and processing finishes, the money appears in your custody balance or is sent to your wallet. NOWPayments advertises an average of about five minutes, though this depends on the coin. If the merchant chooses a fixed rate, the terms give it a 10-minute validity period, but they also let NOWPayments refuse fixed-rate execution if the deposit arrives more than four minutes after the exchange began. Payments that cannot complete automatically may be finished manually and marked 'Partially paid'. The terms put the risk of delivering goods before a 'Finished' status on the merchant.
Crypto payments cannot be charged back, which is a real advantage for merchants who suffer card fraud. Refunds happen only if the merchant starts one. NOWPayments reviews each request, may charge extra fees for it, and requires extra checks, which can include video verification, before refunding to a new address. Coins sent to the wrong network or in unsupported tokens are handled case by case. The terms say recovering them can take up to 20 business days, with extra charges if you want it faster. Fiat withdrawal, under the terms, is EUR only, comes from a USDT balance on the TRON network in custody, and goes through a third-party provider that can ask for business verification.
Read the Terms of Service before you integrate. They were updated on 19 October 2026 and are governed by the law of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Section 15.1 says the services are not provided to residents or citizens of the EU, the UK, the US, the UAE or Russia. The US, UK and EU exclusion was already in the April 2026 terms; the UAE and Russia were added in a later 2026 revision. That excludes most businesses reading this review, even though NOWPayments runs a UK-English version of its site. The agreement has no fixed term. However, FD Transfers LLC can terminate it and close your account at any time, with immediate effect, without notice or a reason, and with no obligation to refund amounts paid. It can change fees at any time with optional notice. If you fail to comply with the terms, it can apply crypto in your account to the resulting liability or settlement amount without notice. Third-party custody and processing providers can delay, refuse or cancel transactions they see as risky.
Sign-up needs only an email address and a wallet, and NOWPayments' industry pages advertise 'KYB-free' crypto payments and say testing needs no KYB. Its AML and KYC policy, last updated December 2025, still lets it ask any customer for identity documents, proof of address, company registration documents and beneficial-owner details, and to screen against sanctions lists. The terms say mandatory KYC for individual accounts may be introduced, with accounts suspended if they do not complete it in time. Expect checks to arrive later, often when volume grows, rather than at onboarding.
As of 27 October 2026 NOWPayments has a TrustScore of 4.5 from 1,122 reviews on Trustpilot. Of those, 76% are five-star and 13% one-star, with few in between. The profile is claimed, NOWPayments invites customers to review it, and Trustpilot shows it has replied to 100% of negative reviews. Many one-star reviews are from shoppers who paid a merchant that uses NOWPayments and did not receive their goods, which is the merchant's failure rather than the gateway's. Others come from merchants. They describe accounts blocked or closed without explanation, including one from April 2026 that says an account was blocked in a single day after processing nearly $1 million, as well as funds held after closure, identity checks that kept failing, unannounced API changes that broke payouts, and fees higher than expected. Our searches found no lawsuit, regulatory enforcement action or regulator warning naming NOWPayments or FD Transfers LLC.
NOWPayments suits a business whose owners are not residents or citizens of the US, UK, EU, UAE or Russia, that wants to accept a wide range of cryptocurrencies cheaply and is comfortable with an offshore, unlicensed counterparty. That includes online gaming, adult and digital-goods merchants who struggle to get or keep card processing, which NOWPayments markets to directly. The published 1% fee, free payouts and the option to forward funds straight to your own wallet are genuinely good terms. Keep exposure low by withdrawing to your own wallet regularly rather than building a large custody balance, since the terms let the company close accounts without a reason. A US, UK, EU, UAE or Russian business cannot use it under the current terms. A merchant that needs a regulated provider, a named custodian or a contract with notice periods should look elsewhere.

FD Transfers LLC can end them and close your account at any time, with immediate effect and without notice or a reason. It owes no refund of amounts already paid and can cancel withdrawal rights if it suspects hacking. Fees can change at any time, and advance notice is optional. Accept payments in more than 350 crypto assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, USDC, Monero and Solana, through a REST API, hosted invoices and payment links, a payment button and widget, and plugins for WooCommerce, Magento 2, OpenCart, WHMCS, Zen Cart, PrestaShop and Ecwid. Each payment gets a single-use deposit address. The merchant can settle in the coin paid or have it converted automatically to another asset. The merchant can also fix the exchange rate for a short window and choose whether the customer or the merchant pays the service fee.
A web-based terminal: the merchant creates a unique POS link in the dashboard, and it generates a deposit address for each in-store purchase. It is software only, with no card reader. NOWPayments also points merchants to its sister app, NOW Wallet, for taking crypto payments on a phone.
An optional balance held for the merchant by a third-party custody provider rather than forwarded straight to an external wallet. The merchant can convert between coins off-chain without network fees and send mass payouts by API or CSV upload. Withdrawals can be limited to whitelisted wallets and authorised IP addresses, with two-factor authentication.
Third-party fiat services connected to the account. The on-ramp lets customers pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Revolut Pay and regional methods, with the merchant receiving crypto. NOWPayments' page says customers can deposit up to €700 without extensive KYC. The off-ramp lets a merchant cash out to a bank account. The Terms of Service say fiat withdrawal is EUR only, is available only from a USDT balance on the TRON network in custody (other balances are converted first, for a fee), and may require business verification (KYB) by the provider.
As of October 2026 the pricing page lists a 1% service fee on payments received and settled in the same coin, and 1.5% on payments that are converted to another asset or taken at a fixed rate. Blockchain network fees are extra, and NOWPayments says it passes them through at cost. Payouts and mass payouts from custody carry no service fee, only network fees. There is no monthly or setup fee. The page says eligible partners can get the single-currency fee down to as low as 0.3%, but it publishes no criteria for who qualifies. On a 100 USDT payment settled in USDT, the service fee is 1 USDT before network fees.
