Zoho Payments Review

Zoho Payments is the payment processing service built into Zoho's finance apps, including Zoho Books, Zoho Invoice, Zoho Billing, Zoho Inventory, Zoho Commerce and Zoho Checkout. Zoho announced its US launch on 14 May 2025, although archived Zoho pages show it already open to US-registered businesses by July 2023; it launched in India in August 2024. This review covers the US product. It takes cards and ACH bank debits online, through invoices, payment links, hosted payment pages, online store checkout and an embeddable widget. It does not offer US in-person payments. As of October 2026, US pricing is 2.9% + 30¢ for domestic cards, American Express included. International cards cost an extra 1.5%, and ACH costs 0.8% capped at $5. There is no setup or monthly fee and no contract. A $15 fee applies to every dispute, whatever the outcome. Zoho onboards and underwrites each business, but card processing and settlement run through Stripe and Adyen, and each merchant also accepts their platform terms. Card payments settle two business days after the sale and ACH payments four, then pay out on the schedule you choose. The product has almost no reviews of its own yet. Zoho's company-wide BBB file carries a complaint-pattern alert about support and billing, though that file covers all of Zoho's apps, not just payments.

The take

B

Zoho Payments is a sensible default for a US business that already runs its invoicing or accounting in Zoho Books, Invoice, Billing or Inventory. Payments are recorded and reconciled in the same place they are billed. The price is published and plain: 2.9% + 30¢ on every domestic card, Amex included, and ACH at 0.8% capped at $5, with no monthly fee or contract. We hold the grade at B for three reasons. The US product is online-only, and ACH has to be requested. The terms give Zoho broad room to set reserves, change fees without notice and debit the accounts of related people and businesses. Finally, the product has too few reviews of its own to judge its support or its handling of account holds.

Skip if you

Need to take payments in person, process enough card volume to negotiate below 2.9% + 30¢, sell mainly to overseas card holders (international cards cost about 4.4% + 30¢, before any currency conversion), need a sandbox to build against, or run a business type on Zoho's prohibited list.

The headline take, the audiences it's right (and wrong) for, and the genuine differentiators behind the verdict.

Pros, cons, and audience

Pros

  • Published, flat pricing: 2.9% + 30¢ for every domestic card, including American Express, with no setup, monthly or PCI fee listed
  • ACH at 0.8% capped at $5 makes large B2B invoices cheap to collect: a $10,000 bank payment costs $5
  • Built into Zoho Books, Invoice, Billing, Inventory, Commerce and Checkout, so payments, fees and payouts reconcile against invoices automatically
  • No contract and no early termination fee
  • Card payments settle two business days after the sale and are paid out on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule you choose
  • Zoho handles onboarding and support itself, by phone and email 24 hours a day, Monday to Friday

Cons

  • Online only in the US: no card reader, terminal or tap-to-pay, although the Indian product has POS devices
  • International cards cost 4.4% + 30¢, and 5.4% + 30¢ when the customer pays in another currency
  • $15 dispute fee is charged even when you win, and the original processing fee is not returned on refunds
  • The terms let Zoho change fees without notice, set reserves at its discretion, place a lien on processed funds and debit the accounts of related people and businesses
  • ACH must be requested from support, and there is no sandbox for developers
  • Little evidence to judge it by: no reviews on Capterra, and Zoho's company-wide BBB file carries a pattern-of-complaints alert about support and billing

What makes them different

The genuine differentiator

Zoho built it as part of its own accounting and billing suite rather than as a standalone processor. Turning it on inside Zoho Books or Zoho Invoice takes a few clicks, and payments, fees, refunds and payouts are matched to invoices automatically. Zoho handles onboarding, underwriting, risk and support itself, while Stripe and Adyen do the processing and settlement underneath.

What Zoho Payments is

Zoho Payments is the payment processing service Zoho Corporation built into its own finance software. It is a business inside a much larger software company. Zoho began in New Jersey in 1996 as AdventNet, a network-management software maker, and renamed itself Zoho Corporation in 2009. Its May 2025 launch announcement describes it as privately held and profitable, with more than 55 apps and more than 18,000 employees, headquartered in Austin, Texas, with its international headquarters in Chennai, India. Zoho says it has never taken outside investment. In 2025 Sridhar Vembu, its long-time chief executive, became chief scientist, and Shailesh Kumar Davey took over as CEO. Co-founder Tony Thomas leads Zoho's US business.

The dates Zoho gives for the product need reading together. Zoho announced Zoho Payments' US launch in a press release dated 14 May 2025. But the product was available to US businesses well before that: archived copies of Zoho's own Zoho Payments site from July 2023 show US pricing in dollars and say it could be set up only by businesses registered in the United States, and Zoho's US help centre refers to accounts onboarded before February 2024. We could not find when US accounts were first offered. In India, Zoho says it secured its payment aggregator licence in February 2024 and launched Zoho Payments at the Global Fintech Fest in August 2024. This review covers the US product. As of October 2026, Zoho says the product is available only in the US and India.

Why we list it as a payment facilitator

Zoho's US Terms of Service describe its role as a payment service provider. Zoho verifies and risk-assesses each business, onboards and underwrites it, sends payment and settlement instructions to the processor, and monitors transactions. The processing and settlement themselves are provided by Stripe, Inc. and Adyen N.V. Every merchant accepts Stripe's services and connected account agreements and Adyen's platform terms, and these are a direct contract between the merchant and that processor. The terms name Zoho as Stripe's Connect platform and Adyen's marketplace platform, and say Zoho may route a transaction through either one. Zoho sets the price, runs onboarding and support, and controls reserves and the settlement schedule, which is how a payment facilitator works. Stripe and Adyen hold the acquiring relationships underneath. In India, by contrast, Zoho holds its own RBI payment aggregator authorisation.

What it costs in the US

  • Domestic cards: 2.9% + 30¢ per transaction, as of October 2026. Zoho's launch announcement says this covers Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, UnionPay and Diners Club, so Amex is not priced higher.
  • International cards: 1.5% on top of the domestic fee, or 4.4% + 30¢. A further 1% currency conversion fee applies to payments in other currencies.
  • ACH Direct Debit: 0.8% per transaction, capped at $5, plus $1 for each instant bank account verification. ACH is enabled on request.
  • Disputes: $15 per disputed transaction, charged whatever the outcome.
  • Refunds: Zoho's help centre says there is no refund fee, but the processing fee on the original payment is not returned. The terms also say you are liable for any fees or charges associated with a refund.
  • Instant payouts: 1.4% of the amount paid out.
  • No setup or maintenance fee. Zoho's pricing page also advertises 1% back in Zoho Credits on card transactions for new users, subject to its offer terms.

As an illustration, take a firm that bills $30,000 a month: $10,000 in 40 card payments of $250 and $20,000 in 10 ACH payments of $2,000. Card fees would be $290 + $12 = $302. Each ACH payment hits the $5 cap (the cap applies from $625 upward), so ACH costs $50, for a total of $352 before any $1 instant bank verification fees, about 1.2% of revenue. Collected entirely by card, the same $30,000 would cost $870 + $15 = $885. ACH is the strongest part of the pricing, provided your customers will pay that way. Note that ACH disputes cannot be contested, and an ACH payment can be returned after it first appears successful. The terms also let Zoho modify processing fees at any time without prior notice, so check the pricing page rather than relying on the rate you signed up at.

How it works day to day

Most users switch Zoho Payments on from inside a Zoho Finance app, where it appears as the preferred gateway under Settings > Online Payments. Customers then pay invoices from emails or the client portal, by payment link, on a hosted payment or subscription page, or at an online store checkout, and the payment is recorded against the invoice automatically. Businesses that do not use Zoho's apps can sign up standalone and use payment links, an embeddable checkout widget or the API. Zoho's homepage also names Zoho Creator, Bookings, Backstage, SalesIQ and Sign among the apps it connects to. Google Pay can be turned on for payment links and the widget. Zoho says there is no sandbox, only a demo account, which matters to anyone building a custom integration. There is a mobile app for iOS and Android. Zoho publishes no US card-present product, so it does not suit a business that takes payments over a counter.

Payouts, reserves and account holds

Payouts start only once Zoho has verified the business and marked the account active, which can mean supplying ID, an IRS 147C letter or SS-4, and three months of bank statements or a voided check. Card payments then settle two business days after the transaction (Zoho notes this can vary with the nature of the business) and ACH payments four, or five if made after 6:00 PM UTC. The money is paid out daily, weekly or monthly as you choose. Instant payouts are available on request once an account has some history, for 1.4%, from $10 to $7,500 at a time. The terms give Zoho wide powers over your money. It can hold reserves of an amount and for a period it decides, change the settlement schedule, withhold payments it considers suspicious, and place a lien on processed funds and your bank account. It can also recover what you owe by debiting your bank account or the accounts of any person or business it reasonably considers related to or associated with you. Zoho's help centre says accounts are usually suspended for restricted business types, excessive chargebacks or terms violations. You can also set aside your own refund buffer, or top up a reserve, so that refunds and chargebacks never leave you short.

Contract and cancellation

There is no fixed term and no early termination fee. Zoho's US terms say you may end them at any time by closing your account; an account linked to a Zoho Finance app is disabled from that app's settings rather than deleted. Charges incurred before you leave remain yours, and Zoho can continue to debit your bank account to collect them. Revoking that debit authorisation needs 30 days' written notice and a replacement authorisation. Zoho's liability to you is capped at the processing fees it received from you in the three months before the claim. The terms are governed by California law, with disputes heard in the courts of Northern California rather than by arbitration. Where Zoho's terms and the processors' terms conflict, the processors' terms prevail.

Reputation

Zoho Payments has almost no public review record of its own. As of October 2026 it has no reviews on Capterra, and we found no separate Trustpilot profile for it. Zoho's company-wide Trustpilot profile rates it 3.8 from about 6,100 reviews. That score is lower than its star distribution alone suggests, with 73% five-star and 12% one-star reviews. The reviews we read concerned other Zoho apps. The BBB lists Zoho in Austin as not accredited and not rated, giving the reason that it is responding to previously closed complaints, and records 53 complaints in three years. The BBB has also issued a pattern-of-complaints alert about slow support, billing and cancellation, and account lockouts. Among the complaints we read, one recent case concerned Zoho Payroll withholding already-debited payroll funds, but none concerned Zoho Payments. That record covers a 55-app company and should not be read as a verdict on the payments product, but it is relevant to how Zoho handles support and billing. We found no lawsuit or regulatory action naming Zoho Payments. A 2026 defamation suit that Zoho brought in India against FlexyPe concerned Zoho Books and a third-party gateway, not Zoho Payments.

In India

Zoho's Indian product is broader than the US one. It includes UPI, net banking, wallets, recurring UPI mandates, point-of-sale devices and payroll payouts. As of October 2026, Zoho's Indian pricing page lists platform fees from 0.5% for UPI, 2.0% for domestic cards and net banking, and 3.0% for international cards, plus 18% GST where applicable. These are separate from the US prices above and apply only to businesses registered in India.

Who should use Zoho Payments

Zoho Payments suits a US business that already invoices or bills customers through Zoho Books, Invoice, Billing or Inventory and wants the payment side to live in the same place. That fits B2B firms in particular, since large ACH invoices cost no more than $5 each. The flat card price, which treats Amex like any other card, is fair but not cheap. A business with steady, high card volume should ask other processors for a negotiated rate. It is not for anyone who takes payments in person, sells mainly to overseas customers, or needs a test environment. Because the product has little public review record and its terms give Zoho wide discretion over reserves and fees, keep a refund buffer and watch the pricing page.

Cancellation Process

Zoho's US Terms of Service say you may terminate them at any time by closing your Zoho Payments account. In practice, an account set up through a Zoho Finance app cannot be fully deleted; you disable it under Settings > Online Payments in Zoho Books, Invoice, Billing, Inventory, Commerce or Checkout, and a standalone duplicate account can be deleted by contacting support. You remain liable for charges incurred before termination, and Zoho can keep debiting your bank account for them. Revoking that debit authorisation takes 30 days' written notice and a replacement authorisation for another account. Zoho can suspend or end the service for suspected fraud, excess risk, a breach of the terms, a dispute rate above 1%, or if its own contract with the processors ends. The terms are governed by California law, with disputes heard in the courts of Northern California.
